Job posting: Transportation writer
The Washington Post’s Local staff has an immediate opening for a reporter to cover transit and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
This is an important and high-profile beat, as the Metro system is one of the few elements of the region that ties together city and suburb, rich and poor.
But as our coverage has shown, the system is struggling financially and in its basic ability to get people from here to there. We are looking for a reporter who can do it all: Deliver scoops about the agency, react quickly to breaking news and provide analysis and enterprise about transit here and across the country.
The successful candidate will be able to easily spot and localize national trends about mass transit and nationalize news from the system here in D.C. We also want someone who can delight and outrage our readers about the sights, sounds and goings on of the subway.
If you think this is you, please send a resume and three clips to Victoria Benning (Victoria.benning@washpost.com), Monica Norton (monica.norton@washpost.com) , Mike Semel (mike.semel@washpost.com), Carla Broyles (Carla.broyles@washpost.com) or Tracy Grant (tracy.grant@washpost.com) by Nov. 2.
