Digital Manager/Photography Editor

The Washington Post seeks a full-time, experienced photography editor to work with the photography team and support the Senior Photo Editor for Digital Engagement.  The ideal candidate has excellent breaking-news judgment, strong organizational skills, and can generate engaging visual story ideas.  A passion for photography and visual narrative is required.  We are looking for a quick and effective problem solver who has stellar interpersonal and communication skills. This person will work all sections in the newsroom to generate digital photography content across platforms.  The ideal candidate will be responsible for gallery building, training others to build galleries, and maintaining our photography standards.  Candidate will monitor and update our social media photography accounts.  The schedule is Monday-Friday 11-7, with weekend, evening and early-morning hours occasionally required for breaking news.

Requirements

  • 5+ years photojournalism experience/ 2+ years management experience
  • B.A. or B.S. in journalism or related field
  • Exceptional photo editing skills
  • In-depth knowledge of image rights and permissions across all digital platforms
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience maintaining social media accounts
  • Experience working in content management system and Wordpress

Additional qualifications

  • An ability to work efficiently in high-profile, high pressure deadline environment
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and image management software
  • Audio and/or video editing experience preferred
  • Sufficient technical proficiency to work with technology teams to improve tools and processes

Online Photo Editor

The Washington Post seeks a full-time digital photography editor to work on our photography team.  We are looking for a candidate with strong news judgment, organizational skills and a passion for photography and visual narrative. 

Requirements

  • Edit and produce photos for the homepage and other areas of the website
  • Direct online photo coverage from daily news and from original Washington Post stories
  • Research and edit photos and build online photo galleries
  • Generate ideas for photo galleries and presentations
  • Writing skills for story summaries and captions preferred.

Additional qualifications

  • B.A. or B.S. in journalism or related field
  • Ability to produce and edit photo galleries
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and image management software
  • Professional knowledge of photo rights and permissions
  • Strong time management abilities and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with editors in a variety of content areas
  • Efficiency in a high-pressure deadline oriented environment
  • Strong aesthetic sensibility and knowledge of photojournalism
  • Eagerness to work within a team environment to sustain an industry-leading news organization
  • Audio and/or video editing skills preferred
