The Virginia Press Association announced today that The Washington Post won three of the four 2011 best-in-show awards given to daily newspapers. The Post was recognized for writing, presentation and art.
Award recipients include:
-Writing: “In Alzheimer’s Famed Coach Faces Toughest Foe Yet" by Sports Columnist Sally Jenkins about legendary women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt.
-Art: “A Fix From Above" by Graphics Reporter Bonnie Berkowitz and Information Designer Alberto Cuadra depicting the repairs to be made at the National Cathedral.
-Presentation: For three complete editions from the contest year. The judges wrote, “This timelessly designed newspaper should be the standard to wich other newspapers look in their own approaches to photojournalism and design and in pursuing journalism of significance.”
